| While we rarely feel the need to report on celebrities here at Mad Mondays, we thought this story would be of interest to Mad Christians. Actress Sofia Vegara and ex-fiancé Nick Loeb have been battling it out for a while now. Not over a house or furniture or a book deal, but rather over embryos. The pair used IVF when they were in a relationship to create two embryos, intending to use a surrogate to have children. The relationship ended and the fight over their frozen babies began. Loeb wants custody of the embryos but Vegara does not want him to be able to use them without her consent. The whole sorry tale is illustrative of how much damage the Sexual Revolution has wrought and how distorted our culture’s view of family has become. Even the language used to describe this situation is crazy, when viewed through God’s good design for marriage and children. The many steps in technology and morality that have made this situation possible are quite jarring to contemplate. While we don’t pretend to know the motivations of the man and woman involved, the modern relationship pictured here is barely a shadow of God’s intention for marriage. Sexual immorality, cohabitation, and divorce. Surrogacy normalized as a way to procure babies. Here is a father who has no authority over the lives of his kids. And that’s before you even begin to think of the children who may never be born. Observing our culture for even a short while can give you a heavy heart, but let’s pray for strength. Destroying the family is always the devil’s mission. We know God’s design for men and women, for marriage, for fatherhood, and for childbearing is the best. Our good Father will give wisdom to anyone who asks, and strength to live out our faith in front of a world that settles for the Deceiver’s counterfeit. |
