Log off, bro

If you caught the Chill this Saturday, you would have heard Rev. Fisk musing about how in many ways, science has become the enemy of knowledge. He went on to posit that science lost its way because it stopped paying attention to things it can’t study. There is a prevailing assumption that you can’t be a good scientist if you believe any Intelligence is responsible for the universe’s existence. But we know that there is much more to reality than can be measured.

It would seem that scientists who can’t concede that this is the case are destined to flail about, looking for a breakthrough that will move their understanding forward. Or worse, they make science the unmoved Mover, the source of objectivity and truth. Case in point…

Celebrity astrophysicist, Neil deGrasse Tyson recently tweeted “The good thing about Science is that it’s true, whether or not you believe in it.” (If memory serves, this is something that has rightly been said of the Christian faith.)

Not willing to let such a claim go unchallenged, Steak-umm, of frozen beef fame stepped into the ring. Using their 280 characters to great effect, Steak-umm pointed out, “Science is an ever refining process to find truth, not a dogma. No matter his intent, this message isn’t helpful.” It’s pretty hilarious that a food company was the one to challenge the nonsense of this statement, but we’re glad they did.
