You might not know it if you read certain parts of the media, but not everyone hates the police and wants to defund law enforcement. The funeral for fallen NYPD officer Jason Riviera brought a tear to many an eye, as a sea of fellow officers lined Fifth Avenue. The show of solidarity sent a strong message about morale among cops in the face of rising crime. Riviera’s widow said that lawmakers are endangering both citizens and police by downgrading violent crimes. California reduced shoplifting from a crime to a misdemeanour (we know how that’s working out..) while New York City went so far as to abandon jail time for armed robbers.
