A huge convoy of trucks has been making its way across Canada to protest Prime Minister Trudeau’s vaccine mandates. Although most truckers are already vaccinated, organizers of the “Freedom Convoy” say they are sending a message on behalf of all Canadians. A Go Fund Me account raising money for fuel and accommodation froze the funds initially but has now released the “first batch” of cash. 

PM Trudeau slammed the convoy as a “small fringe minority” with “unacceptable views,” then quarantined himself after testing negative for COVID (we’re confused too) and went to ground. Some folks claimed that traffic cameras were conspicuously out of action as the convoy moved through town, but having Joe Rogan and Elon Musk draw attention to your movement sort of undermines any effort to cover it up. 

Journalist Batya Ungar-Sargon has previously observed that her profession is not as working class as it once was. She recently argued that when it comes to culture wars – marriage, family, education – the divide is often along class lines. There is an interesting parallel to these pandemic years. While COVID is supposed to be a matter for medicine and science, our leaders have often prioritized the needs of the “laptop class” over the working class, children and the poor. The damage is becoming hard to ignore and those who are being cast aside are making it known.

Our King has the power and authority to bring justice and throw down evil. We remember how Mary prayed: 

He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
And exalted the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
And the rich He has sent away empty.

We pray that the protest will be peaceful and that liberty will be restored.
