The current courtroom drama playing out between actor Johnny Depp and his ex-wife, Amber Heard has captured public attention. Both parties are claiming to have been abused by the other. Writing at The Federalist, Auguste Meyrat notes how strange it is that “one of Hollywood’s most famous actors [is] complaining about being abused by a woman 23 years younger than him”. While Meyrat doesn’t make any judgement about who is telling the truth, he argues that “modern feminist messaging” has set men and women against each other. When broken people try to live by the wisdom of this age, the fallout is bitterness, confusion and enmity. Peace dictates that someone needs to lower their weapon, as Meyrat notes – “men need to be virtuous men and women need to be virtuous women, both seeking to serve one another and build something beautiful together”. Before his famous passage on husbands and wives, Saint Paul admonished the Ephesians to “walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil”. So how can we display how good it is when men and women know who they are? We will repeat what Rev Fisk has often said – get into the Proverbs! The wisest man who lived wrote a book about life and it will keep your mind trained to make good choices. More than that, your clearheaded stance will be a light in this world, showing those trapped by lies that there is a good design for men and women, if only they will submit to it. |
