When it comes to the Sexual Revolution, the slippery slope remains undefeated. The rationale that self-determination and self-gratification were reasonable replacements for God’s truth has only lead to chaos. As the constraint provided by Christian heritage fades in the West, it is evident that lust left unchecked drives human minds to invent new forms of wickedness, using and consuming all in its path. Sexual sins are done in secret, but in a society that is working to remove all shame and stigma, they are a particularly pernicious type of pathogen.
Germany’s parliament voted last week to downgrade possession and distribution of child pornography from a felony to a misdemeanor. Advocates of the law say it will prevent teachers and others who discover such material from being inadvertently dragged into prosecutorial proceedings and also allow “flexibility” when dealing with juvenile offenders. But rather than carve out exceptions to existing law, German lawmakers have recklessly cut down safeguards that protect children.
Lawmakers need to wake up to the fact that there are a number of well-placed people who are wickedly perverted and want nothing more than access to children, to indulge every vice. Their twisted logic proposes that breaking the taboo of pedophilia is the way to rid society of child abuse. Like letting thieves take things will stop their pilfering. Or giving bullies what they want will get them to leave you alone.
Reduxx, the publication that initially broke the news into the online Anglosphere, was jumped on by fact checkers who insisted there was nothing nefarious afoot. But as Redux has documented, Germany has been tolerant of children’s books promoting prostitution, accepted advocates of LGBT daycare and allowed a number of high-profile pro-pedophilia groups being called upon to advise government. This is just another stop down the slippery slope.
Before we get too smug over Germany’s liberal lurch, remember here in the US, we have all the pieces in place to fuel child exploitation, even if we have yet to rubber stamp such debauchery. Drag queen events, the creepy pronoun creep, transgender social media influencers, “pride” month at stores, anti-parent educational policies and an open border all work in the favor of those who hope to groom kids. Also remember that the absolutely horrific World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) is the main issuer of guidelines for transgender “care” across the globe. The organization is full of perverted adults whose fantasies defy the worst moral imagination. WPATH has the ear of many in the Biden administration, including US Assistant Health Secretary Rachel Levine (a man who thinks he is a woman).
Levine has consistently called for children to have access to transgender treatments over and against the desires of their parents. It is worth asking what kind of person is invested in having children removed from their parents’ care and given drugs which will keep them in a state of immaturity. Who is interested in encouraging children to pick their gender and talk about sex? Who is interested in discouraging Christian families from adoption? Who is interested in lax border policies when it comes to minors crossing into this country?
In an article for The Federalist, John Daniel Davidson calls on readers to bring back taboo, to shame people who would normalize evil. “Tearing down taboos, especially sexual taboos, serves a single purpose: to encourage that which was once forbidden.” Certainly if our government will not punish evil, then the very least we can do is promote a society which will not tolerate such things. Good men must stand up against predatory men; good women must shame women who place children in harm’s way.
You’re probably tired of being right about the libertine trajectory of recent decades, but we’re not quite at the bottom of the slippery slope. There are more letters to be added to the rainbow array, more wickedness to be invented, more damage that could be inflicted on young souls. With boldness, wisdom, prayer, and the truth of God’s word, we could live to be proved wrong. And that would be a good thing.
